I know that it is stereotypical for an athiest to look down at religious zealotry, but I do. It drives me crazy that otherwise intelligent and successful people can so easily embrace such idiocy and call it their "spiritual foundation". Only the willfull dismissal of the obvious could allow for this. Good luck in your search for other like minded people. I live in a tiny little town on the west coast. The area is populated with dairy farms, churches and bars. Here most everyone claims to be deeply christian... on sunday morning...saturday night they're out fighting in bars, screwing cows and beating their wives, heh.
